Duluth Traverse Trail Master Plan

Duluth, Minnesota

This trail plan is anticipated to be the first 100-mile trail system of its kind, built wholly within an urban environment.

Confluence led a team of mountain bike and natural trail surface design experts to analyze existing built trail sections, prepare plans for future segments and associated infrastructure needs, explore neighborhood connection opportunities, and integrate natural resource protection standards to make this trail system a national model for long-term sustainability.

Our team facilitated extensive public involvement and use of an online, interactive social engagement tool to encourage robust public discussion and networking/community-building for trail enthusiasts. Proposed trails improve connectivty to neighborhoods and other community park destinations.

This graphic-rich master plan integrates extensive photography of trail examples while celebrating mountain biking and the City of Duluth’s vibrant landscapes, parks and people.
