North Oak Corridor Transit Study

Kansas City, North Kansas City and Gladstone, Missouri

This study explores the relationship between enhanced transit service and future growth and development throughout this inner-ring suburban corridor.

Confluence led the community planning and ridership analysis efforts, and facilitated a series of meetings with community stakeholders, City representatives, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority and the Mid-American Regional Council throughout the planning process. Our team explored alternatives for improving future transit to including enhanced bus, bus rapid transit, and streetcar services. Analysis of each mode of transit was created from a system infrastructure cost and operations perspective - which also included understanding existing ridership and development densities.

Confluence analyzed existing conditions in key nodes along the corridor to review existing sidewalk and bicycle networks and proposed additions needed to increase access to transit facilities, and provided a series of recommendations to support increased ridership.

Our team also explored future growth and development scenarios associated with each mode of transit - illustrating the magnitude of future residential and employment densities necessary for long-term sustainability.
