KcICON: I-29 / I-35 Corridor Enhancement

Kansas City and North Kansas City, Missouri

This design/build project provided a new iconic bridge connecting into Downtown Kansas City, complete with corridor aesthetic treatments and new interchanges on both sides of the Missouri River.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reconstructed and expanded four miles of the Interstate 29/35 corridor from Downtown Kansas City, Missouri over the Missouri River. Confluence led the urban design and aesthetic enhancements as part of a multi-disciplinary team to integrate these improvements into the surrounding context.

Our staff led and facilitated meetings with a Community Advisory Group to review proposed urban design features and enhancements throughout the process, and we held several public information meetings to share design and schedule updates. Unique design features were integrated into the new interchange areas, retaining walls, sound walls, roadway barriers, landscape features, and new neighborhood identity elements to assist in mitigating the impacts of these new improvements.
