Basehor, Kansas
This plan provides a unifying vision for a collection of civic facilities to serve existing and future needs of this growing community.
Our community outreach efforts included extensive interviews and interaction with community stakeholders, surrounding property owners, the City's Planning Commission and City Council members to discuss Basehor's future needs and desires. Our team explored alternative options for configuring this City-owned site to accommodate a mixture of uses including an existing community library, a proposed early childhood center, a future elementary school, an athletic field complex, a community amphitheater, a municipal complex that could include a new City Hall, a future community center and aquatics facility, a playground and splash pad, and a series of trails and open space areas.
The planning effort also assisted the City in selecting a preferred site and negotiating with the School District for placement of the elementary school in accordance with the master plan recommendations. Opportunities for enhanced community connectivity, shared parking and site resources, and utilization of a combined stormwater improvement project to serve the entire property were also integrated into the plan recommendations.
