This new park along the Chicago River serves as a green oasis within the gritty urban edge of the South Loop neighborhood.
Located on the former site of the Baltimore & Ohio Grand Central Station, the visionary developers are developing the area as a new high-rise neighborhood focused around a central park space and bordered by an ecologically rich serpentine riverwalk. Our team was hired to be the Landscape Architect of record to refine the final park design approach and site detailing, prepare construction documents, and provide construction administration to make this ambitious plan phasable, buildable, and affordable.
Many original park details were complex and expensive, and our task was to refine the details to eliminate expenses while retaining the design intent and character. The refined design integrates the riverfront boardwalk, stone block amphitheater, and diverse plantings. To accommodate future construction of three adjacent buildings, our team anticipated work zone needs and reimagined portions of the design to allow for future construction - thus limiting any impact of the newly constructed park.
