The museum’s design evokes the image of the flag-raising at Iwo Jima, and the landscape design conveys the Naval heritage of the Corps through the use of bold, geometric landscape gestures.
The National Museum of the Marine Corps and the adjacent 10-acre Semper Fidelis Memorial Park is designed as a place for reflection and inspiration, serving as a memory of the fallen or missing comrades and shipmates as expressed in the Marines’ motto, Semper Fidelis (“Always Faithful”). It is intended to convey the Naval character of the Corps through the use of bold, geometric and formal landscape gestures, while the informal braiding of paths, memorial walls and rallying points evoke the honor, courage, and commitment of historic and current-day Marines.
