North Kansas City, Missouri
Serving as a bustling east-west corridor through the City, this new design transforms the street into a multi-modal asset for the community while integrating space for bicycles, pedestrians and vehicles.
Confluence collaborated with WSP to create the Complete Streets Plan for implementation along this corridor. The relatively wide corridor provided opportunities to reduce vehicular lanes, while still accommodating the needs of traffic, and safely incorporating buffered bicycle lanes. Our team engaged the community to assist in selecting the aesthetic character of the streetscape elements – which will ultimately be integrated in the adjacent Downtown portion of the corridor. The plan also integrates keeping areas for on-street parking, the use of decorative cross walks, and corridor beautification through landscaped planting islands and opportunities for community art.
New thematic street and pedestrian lighting and City wayfinding signage are also part of the plan. The project is being implemented in phases, with Phase One consisting of pavement striping and signage improvements as a “test fit” – and future phases anticipated for constructing the streetscape enhancements.
