Denver, Colorado
14th Street was a “vehicle-heavy” corridor connecting the Civic Center to Denver’s Lower Downtown when our team was commissioned as the urban planner and landscape architect for the redevelopment.
Project visioning established distinct districts along the corridor, with standard and premium levels of design to differentiate focused areas of investment along the corridor. The urban design solution converted an automobile dominated street into a flexible, pedestrian-oriented, multi-modal transit corridor by adding bike lanes, widening sidewalks, installing distinctive wayfinding signage, and enhancing the sense of place through high-quality streetscape amenities, beautiful landscaping, and well-crafted details. 14th Street has transformed the front door of Denver’s Arts, Convention and Civic District. The infrastructure, materials, and water conservation efforts incorporated 14th Street established it as the first corridor in the United States to receive a “Green Roads” certification from the Greenroads Foundation and positioned it as one of the nation’s most sustainable public streets. The revitalized corridor stands as a welcoming front door to the Civic District.
