Our Work

Kansas City Downtown Streetcar

Kansas City, Missouri

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, Confluence was selected to assist with the design of a two-mile north-south streetcar starter line to run through downtown Kansas City, connecting the River Market on the north to Union Station and Crown Center on the south. The modern, electric streetcar vehicles  operate within existing street lanes with stops occurring approximately every two blocks.

Confluence has collaborated with the design team to develop prototype design options for station/platform design and integrate the selected station design into the surrounding urban setting. This process involved analysis of existing conditions and character at the various station locations.

Throughout the process, Confluence has assisted the team with creation of conceptual illustrations and graphics to communicate initial ideas and concepts. Many of these graphics have been used throughout the public involvement process. Information has been shared through a series of activities including door to door visits, one-on-one meetings with stakeholders, electronic newsletters and several public meetings.

The streetcar opened to the public on May 6, 2016.
