St. Michael The Archangel High School and Chapel

Lee's Summit, Missouri

Confluence is part of the multi-disciplinary design team selected to assist the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph with the planning and construction of a new diocesan high school campus in rapidly growing eastern Jackson County, Missouri. This school will serve to consolidate two outdated facilities currently operated by the Diocese.

Located in the Kansas City suburb of Lee’s Summit, on 80 acres of woods and gently rolling fields, the campus will include a new high school, chapel, athletic complex and signature outdoor event space. The site is being designed to allow for expansion in the future.

The site is an existing farmstead comprised of several different ecosystems. The campus is designed to take advantage and celebrate these natural features. The school and chapel are oriented around a central exterior courtyard space for classroom and worship functions. A larger outdoor amphitheater adjacent to an existing pond will provide a venue for larger events as well as outdoor teaching. A portion of the site will be established with native prairie plantings and accessible by a series of nature walks. Two new detention basins are designed to handle stormwater runoff.

The athletic complex will include a dual-use competition soccer and football stadium, track, baseball and softball fields and tennis courts. Multi-purpose practice fields are also proposed.

Construction on the project began in March 2016.
