Walnut Creek
Des Moines, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights, Iowa
Confluence served as lead consultant to the cities of Des Moines, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights for public facilitation and landscape architectural services for this 5-mile multipurpose trail through the Walnut and Jordan Creek corridors. The design process of this multi-jurisdictional project required close coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the respective City governments, adjacent businesses and citizens. The Walnut Creek Trail Master Plan strives to balance aesthetics and environmental concerns with the ‘not in my backyard’ mentality of neighborhood groups.
The resultant master plan respects citizen concerns, provides a memorable trail experience, and is the ‘missing link’, connecting 68 miles of trail in the central Iowa region. The accompanying graphics were utilized to educate the public about the open process as well as the final trail alignment.
