Olathe Memorial Cemetery Expansion

Olathe, Kansas

This 27-acre historic cemetery was founded in 1865 and purchased by the City of Olathe in 1879. It is one of the oldest burial grounds in Johnson County, Kansas and is the final resting place for many prominent residents, family, and veterans. It is nearing capacity, having dutifully served the community while providing a wide range of burial options.

The City acquired an adjacent 5-acre parcel of land and selected a team led by Confluence to prepare a Master Plan for expanding the cemetery. This work included a comprehensive review of current and future cemetery needs, as well as introducing new concepts based on sound business practices and market projections.

The final plan incorporates a phased implementation approach for improving and enhancing the existing cemetery. Elements in the master plan include a new main entrance, converting the existing offices into an on-site chapel, construction of a new sales office and maintenance facility, and the introduction of several new burial options and garden spaces that significantly expand the cemetery’s offerings.
