Gambril Park + Trailhead

Kansas City, Missouri

Kansas City’s Parks and Recreation Department selected Confluence to design a 13-acre neighborhood park and trailhead improvements to serve the south Kansas City community.  The park is designed to eventually serve as an entry to the MetroGreen trail system, as this park will eventually be linked via a future western trail extension to the Little Blue River trail system.

The existing site is fairly rugged and heavily treed, and is bisected from east to west by a tributary feeding the Little Blue River.  The scope of park improvements included design of a trailhead adjacent to the existing neighborhood, a portion of the City’s trail system designed to AASHTO standards, and a wood pedestrian bridge crossing the creek leading to a naturalistic play structure and a nature trail.  Major street drainage improvements were also completed.
