Historic Downtown Independence Streetscape

Independence, Missouri

Confluence prepared a Streetscape Master Plan for Independence’s Historic Downtown District.  This district encompasses several local, regional and nationally relevant historic sites, including the location of the original Jackson County Courthouse, the President Harry S. Truman offices, and the longstanding presence of the Community of Christ. Downtown’s Historic Independence Square has many significant stories to tell.

This plan is the first phase of implementation of the Independence Square Revitalization Plan. This Master Plan will continue the process of recreating a vibrant, active, pedestrian-friendly urban environment that will enable the City of Independence to share its historic past with the community while building for the future.  Confluence also developed concepts for a Downtown wayfinding and identification signage program to serve the District.
