Downtown Aberdeen Streetscape

Aberdeen, South Dakota

Like many downtown districts, Aberdeen had recently seen an increased interest by the community to reinvestment in their downtown. In the Spring of 2009, this momentum was carried forward to the streetscape with a project that included a six block section of Main Street Aberdeen. The goal of the project was to replace outdated lighting and to improve the downtown streetscape by incorporating elements that create a welcoming environment for shopping, dining and entertainment.

Confluence was brought on to the project team to provide design development services, construction documents and construction administration for the streetscape elements in the project, including lighted masonry entry piers, masonry sculpture bases, masonry seatwalls and landscape planters that provide the framework for the downtown improvements. We also made light pole and furnishing recommendations, along with providing a planting plan and full drip irrigation plan for the project. We provided cost estimates for each phase of the design process and the project was successfully bid, on budget, with construction completed in Fall 2010.
