Cherapa Place

Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Cherapa Place is a high point in the urban redevelopment project along the downtown reach of the Big Sioux River in Sioux Falls.  Whereas older buildings in the area had previously turned their back to the river, the design approach for Cherapa Place was to site the building to embrace dynamic views of the river, and to the extent possible integrate the surrounding spaces with this amenity.  To that end, the project was planned to correspond with future greenway improvements to become integrated into a broader network of open spaces.   The primary parking lot is slated for future building growth.

The site incorporates an historic Sioux quartzite railroad depot building and features native grasses and trees. Native Sioux quartzite is further integrated into the landscape and architectural features such as the monument sign, custom bollard lighting, and paving. Other features include a patio facing the greenway and river for use by tenants and landscaped areas for the owner’s sculpture collection.
