Kirkwood Community College – Campus Planning
Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Campus Master Plan: Confluence served as lead planning consultant in the preparation of a Campus Master Plan for Kirkwood Community College. The plan is intended to guide campus growth, in a phased manner, through the year 2020. The 225-acre college campus consists of athletic facilities, academic classrooms, a performance auditorium, an equestrian facility, an arts campus and greenhouses, all adjacent to a primary vehicular spine. The plan builds upon the existing campus fabric, proposes creating stronger pedestrian linkages, and seeks to provide a comprehensive vision for future growth and development.
Confluence’s involvement included establishing and refining Kirkwood’s campus goals and growth principles, preserving and enhancing the arboretum-like quality of central campus, developing and testing schematic design proposals, and preparing draft plans for open space, new building sites, linkages, site features and landscape development.
