Waterfront Convention Center
Bettendorf, Iowa
Confluence was an integral part of a multi-disciplinary design team, and was responsible for site planning and creating landscape planting plans for this 24,000 square foot convention center in Bettendorf, Iowa. Our team of landscape architects worked closely with the architect to develop a landscape plan that worked conceptually as well as functionally with the building exterior.
The planting design and site grading concept creates a plinth for the building to rest upon while also serving as flood protection due to the buildings proximity to the Mississippi River. Conceptually, the use of winter creeper groundcover plantings as the plinth visually grounds the building while mirroring its overhang. Visual screening of adjacent rail yards and building service areas were also incorporated into the final design plans.
