Shantou University Sports Park
Shantou, China
Confluence provided design direction for the creation of a rooftop garden covering the entire structure proposed to contain an indoor recreation facility in Shantou, China. This facility includes a natatorium with an indoor basketball arena and related facilities and amenities.
Students and visitors to Shantou University are anticipated to have full access to the green roof – which will serve as a park space providing dramatic views of the University campus and of the surrounding countryside. The roof garden design incorporates a series of raised landscape beds, turf areas, and both paved and aggregate walking zones. Green roof design considerations were integrated into the design recommendations, with the added design complexity associated with a sloping roof structure that provides pedestrian access from an adjacent street.
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, Confluence led the design of the roof garden through design development, and will continue to serve as a design resource to provide oversight to local design professionals tasked with developing final construction documents.
