Memorial Park Outdoor Hockey Rink
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Confluence led the design and implementation of a multi-seasonal hockey rink to be located within the existing 22.6-acre Memorial Park. The new rink serves as an inline skating hockey rink during warmer months, and is designed to convert to an ice skating hockey rink in the winter. Located on the west side of Sioux Falls, this park contains walking paths, wetland educational areas, a playground, soccer practice fields, and the new outdoor multi-seasonal skate rink with adjacent warming house.
The new hockey rink is built into a gentle hillside and is surrounded by strategically placed masses of evergreens that will mature over time to provide skaters and spectators protection from the winter elements. The rink features permanent lighting and fiberglass walls set on a post-tension concrete slab. These features provide added flexibility, allowing the rink to be available for use by the community at all times of the year in both daytime and evening hours.
