    · view profile ·
    • Matt graduated from Kansas State University (GO WILDCATS!) with a degree in Landscape Architecture with a Minor in Regional and Community Planning before moving to Iowa in 1998. After six years of experience with another firm, Matt joined Confluence in the spring of 2004. He has continued to grow as a landscape architect and leader within the firm. His growth and dedication makes him a valuable member of our team and, in the summer of 2012, he became a stockholder. Matt is currently the Trustee for the Iowa Chapter of ASLA, and has held several other positions within the organization. He is very committed to the present and future practice of landscape architecture in the state.

Matt and his wife, Crista, designed and built their own home in Urbandale in 2007. Somehow, late in that same year; they were blessed with the arrival of their daughter, Devon. Matt enjoys spending time with both of them, usually attending a sporting event of some sort. He prides himself on being a Midwest guy. He wants everyone to know that he completed the third phase of his home bar and EVERYONE is welcome to stop in. (How does a bar have phases?) In his free time, he enjoys the outdoors and nurturing a small acreage in south central Iowa. Matt’s plans to attract and keep that ‘record buck’ on the acreage have been relatively successful, but the buck seems to elude him.  Matt sure ‘tries’ hard, though (code for “he’s a bad shot with a bow”)!

Here at Confluence we are glad that Matt and his family call Iowa home. The Confluence team is better because of it.

    ASLA, PLA / Landscape Architect

    • With a flair for graphic design and knack for random knowledge, Jessica has the ability to develop creative solutions to most any design dilemma. As a Sioux Falls native, she spent time in Minnesota attending college at both St. Ben’s and the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities where she earned both an MLA and a degree in Natural Sciences before returning to call South Dakota her home.

As a kid who dreamed of being an artist and a young adult determined to be a scientist – Jessica found her niche in landscape architecture. Time spent traveling abroad, a stint in environmental activism, and several years of parks and greenhouse employment cemented her love of plants and the designed environment.

When not in the office, Jessica can be found immersed in a hockey game, sifting through an estate sale, or taking in a good book or movie with family and friends.

    • Nate grew up on a farm near the small town of Templeton, Iowa. His childhood experience on the farm instilled a strong work ethic and love for all things open, rural and land-related. A 2010 graduate of Iowa State University, Nate has now gained several years of professional experience and is primed to make solid contributions to the firm and its valued clients. Nate has already supported numerous projects including the University of Iowa Carver Hawkeye Arena Renovations, Iowa River Landing – UIHC Ambulatory Care Clinic Facility, University of Iowa Community Credit Union – North Liberty Campus, Old Town Coralville Master Plan, and Northside Marketplace Streetscape in Iowa City.

Nate and his wife, Erin, have welcomed their first child, Brynn Marie, into their lives. A precious gift, Brynn has changed the couple’s outlook on life. There may be fewer evenings out with friends, but there has been little slowing down. Nate is still strumming chords, Erin is tickling the ivories and the family continues to travel – destinations include Montreal, Quebec and San Antonio, Texas, as well as countless trips to see the grandparents.
